Took my old hybrid there a couple years ago to have the shifters fixed. When I was at the register to check out, the employee says, "Oh, looks like you need a brake adjustment," and turns one of the screws a bit. He didn't ask, he just did it. I know how to adjust brakes, it's not something I would ever pay anybody to do, and for some reason I was under the assumption he was doing it just because it was such a minor job. It took him less than 30 seconds, and he charged me the full amount for a brake adjustment. I was about to finish up a break from work, so I didn't bother arguing, just stood there stupefied and disgruntled for a bit.
He's the only one there
I ask for a manager
Very patient with me, a middle aged mom, who probably tied them up way more than the average customer, they happy answered my questions clearly.
I repeat that it's not fixed.
He repeats his original answer.
So they call to tell me it's finished and reassembled except my chain guide. They would be happy to put it back on and charge me more labor fees instead of putting it on the 1st time. No thanks!
So I return home and contact Earls via email and explain what happened. Did offer a refund, store credit, or even apologize? Nope, they said to give them a call and we could discuss it. Sorry, no thanks. Tried that when I picked up my bike.
The shifters worked fine, but as for the brake adjustment... never have I experienced anything like that at any other bicycle shop. I payed and went on my way, never been back.
Just wish they'd (or someone would) open a bike shop in downtown Selinsgrove - I think a shop like this would do well, lots of cyclists down here :( help!!
So I had to pay $55 to just get my bike back, not fixed mind you.
Rear linkage problem with my Giant full suspension. It had developed some side to side play. I've already got the bike partially disassembled when I take it to Earls. They tell me no problem, should have it fixed in no time. Before I make it home they call to tell me they do need to reassemble the bike to diagnose the problem. This is annoying as I live near an hour away. I take them the parts.
I won't ever set foot in that store again
I pick up my bike. Linkage has the same amount of play as it did when I dropped it off. I say to the young kid working there that it's not fixed.
Worst bike shop I've ever been to.
They adjusted a new saddle (that was on clearance) for my daughter & helped us with selecting a snazzy new bike lock for school.
His reply "They fixed it the best they could without getting new parts"
Friendly. Thorough. Very nice store. Also has a lititle ice cream parlor.
The staff at Earls are top notch. We've purchased 3 bikes so far and will continue to deal with them.
